Career Pathway Exploration
The objectives of this lesson are:
In this lesson, you will complete the action steps to dream about that career for you,
plan how to get there, and begin on your journey!
1. Dream it!
a. Ask yourself, what are your interests? What do you like and dislike?
b. Go to My Next Move and create an account. Follow these steps.
c. What do you value most? Helping people, making lots of money, working alone, being creative, working inside versus outside?
o Take Assessments to find the type of work environment that best fits you.
o Now select a few of the carers that are suited for you and research to conduct a Skills and Knowledge inventory to determine what is necessary to enter your chosen career.
d. Overview job occupational resources including career salaries & job demand.
Select one of these websites and research:
o Salary.com
o Occupations (O*Net)
o Occupation Projections
o Occupational Outlook Handbook
e. Identify employment opportunities and select your top 3 employment goals
2. Plan It!
a. Set personalized career and employment goals.
b. Overview resources available to you for:
o IRSC Programs & Careers
o Financial aid: Go to http://www.irsc.edu/Videos/Financial-Planning/player.html to see resources available to you upon graduation.
o Industry certification: http://issuu.com/irsc-iao/docs/irsc_career_pathways
o Occupational skills:
o http://www.irsc.edu/Programs/ProgramsList/programslist.aspx?id=4294969909
o http://www.bls.gov/ooh/home.htm
o Career and Transition Service for job opportunities: http://www.irsc.edu/careercenter/careercenter.aspx
3. Do It!
a. Overview Career and Transition Services for resume writing.
b. Login to Financial Literacy, create an account and complete at least 2 modules.
c. Save your Certificate of Completion for each module you complete and give it to your instructor.
When you complete the lessons, don't forget to close those windows and return here!

Navigation Post-test
Submit your top 3 employment goals (in order of preference) to your instructor!
